Luke Brady

luke_brady_biography_picture My names Luke. I'm 20 years old and I've just started university, studying English and Journalism. I've been working on my first book for three years now – The Night Torch: The Light of Dawn and its finally nearing completion.

Since I was small I've been writing in some shape or form. Songs, stories, you name it. My imagination has always been my most powerful weapon and I've been lucky enough to be able to use it in every situation, not just writing. I remember playing Star Wars in the back garden with some friends when I was much younger, with my purple light saber. Good times.

I have three major passions in life - reading, writing and music. God knows where I'd be without them. My favorite bands play an important part in influencing me to write. Good old Paramore. Some of my favorite TV shows give me a little guidance as well, mainly Doctor Who and Lost. I'd love to write for Doctor Who one day. It's been a huge part of my teenage years and I'd like to think I've learnt something about writing from the show.

I'm far from your stereotypical writer, which really brings me to why I'm here. I want to be able to stand up and say it's okay to be different; it's okay to be funny and weird and to stand out from everyone else. When I was growing up I found it hard to be individual and to be who I am. Even now, when people ask me what I want to do with my life, I still feel a tiny bit of embarrassment when I say I want to be a writer. It might not be as glamorous as music or acting, but it's still a huge part of the media and entertainment. We can immerse and lose ourselves in books as much as music or television or anything else for that matter.

So when I think to myself, "What do I ultimately want to achieve from being a writer?" I immediately think this – I want to be different. I want people to see this difference and know its okay. And maybe, just maybe, we can begin to change the world one word at a time.

Even though it's a bit of a long shot. Let's be honest.
