If too many people tell Jean-Nicol Chelmiah they are loving his work, it can
leave him scratching his head.

His marmite sense of humour and healthy disregard for authority have sunk as
many boats as they’ve floated; when his writing isn’t as equally divisive,
he tries to work out where he went wrong.

Without any academic qualifications, Jean-Nicol started writing two years
ago. The reason, he says, is he has something to say. He makes neither
excuse nor apology. His stories are violent and socially dysfunctional; they
show a distinct lack of any sense of moral responsibility and often contain
high levels of acute sexual deviance. If you can grab him on a Friday night,
you should definitely hang out.

He is British born and half Mauritian. Originally from out of town, he’s in
Brixton, South London, now. Jean-Nicol Chelmiah is genuinely flattered that
you’ve clicked on his name but doesn’t feel he wants to go too far into who
he is or what he’s done. He believes that all good writers should be
invisible. That way they can watch you piss. He is busy finishing his first
novel. It is called ‘Street Magic’ and will be ready in 2011. Until then,
